Florida Law Enforcement Deputy (Certified)

Starting Salary: $62,500 (Certified)

This position involves protecting the public and preserving the peace, and serving in any of a variety of assignments in the Sheriff's Office. As a Deputy Sheriff, you need to interpret and enforce all applicable federal, state and local laws, general orders, directives, and policies and procedures of the Sheriff's Office. The Deputy Sheriff must be able to work independently under limited supervision. Deputies work a rotating shift that will include weekends and holidays. Applicants must have successfully passed the State Officer Certification Examination (SOCE). Must take and pass the Physical Abilities Testing (PAT) with a maximum time of 6:04

The Lee County Sheriff's Office provides a comprehensive compensation package to include:

  • Must be 21 years old, or older
  • Must have obtained a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Must have a Social Security Card
  • Must have successfully passed the Florida Law Enforcement State Officer Certification Exam (SOCE) or are currently attending a Florida approved Criminal Justice Academy for Law Enforcement
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony
  • Must not have used illegal drugs in the last 12 months
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
  • Must be able to work various shifts with rotating days off, as well as weekends, holidays and emergency events such as hurricanes
  • Must be able to speak, write and understand the English language

Preferred Skills:

  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of Lee County geography
  • Polite, courteous and professional demeanor
  • Bilingual
  • Experience as a Law Enforcement Officer in the state of Florida or out of state
  • Experience working or volunteering with a law enforcement agency in a civilian or certified capacity

Equivalency of Training:

The Equivalency of Training (EOT) process is for out-of-state officers, federal officers and previously certified Florida officers with a four year or more break-in-service pursuant to section 943.131(2a), Florida Statutes and Rule 11B-35.009(3) or (4), Florida Administrative Code or for persons who served as a member of the special operations forces pursuant to section 943.131(2)(b), F.S. and Rule 11B-35.009(5), F.A.C.
